“It is learned that the victim and the accused knew each other. The woman is said to have lent the victim about 60,000 Lek to buy the motorcycle,” the officer adds.
“When he failed to return the amount, it led to a dispute. She later sought the help of her friends to mediate the matter, but the situation escalated.”
Further investigation suggests the alleged attack stemmed from resentment after a failed relationship.
According to a senior officer at the Cheruthoni police station, Anu and Jins met about a year-and-a-half ago while working in a private firm in Ernakulam. “Their professional association soon turned into a romantic relationship and the two later moved in together in Kochi,” he says.
During this period, Anu gave Jin `60,000 as a “birthday gift” to buy an adventure bike costing over `2 lakh.
“Subsequently, the relationship soured after Jins got close to another woman. This led to frequent disputes. Anu demanded that he return the money he had spent on the motorcycle,” says the officer.
“Jins refused, claiming it was a gift. He argued that financial exchanges during a relationship should not be reinstated after a breakup.”
Anu, who had been transferred to another workplace, is said to have confided in her colleagues. Together, they allegedly planned to recover the motorcycle, if not the money.
The accused were then brought before the court and sent to custody. Jins, who suffered injuries in the attack, has been released from hospital.
