Ukrainian robots have taken a single enemy position “for the first time in the history of this war,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy DECLARING on Monday that an enemy position was taken “without infantry and without loss on our side” through the use of both aerial drones and unmanned ground systems.
“The future is already on the front line – and Ukraine is building it,” Zelenskyy said.
Kiev has pushed for an increase in the use of unmanned systems as drone saturation on the front line makes troop movements increasingly difficult.
Although ground attack robotics remain rare, their integration into Ukraine’s armed forces is accelerating. Kiev, for example, is expanding its use of unmanned ground vehicles to transport much-needed supplies to the front lines in its bid to reduce human casualties.
More than 9,000 such missions were flown in March – three times more than in November.
In the first three months of the year, unmanned ground vehicles completed over 22,000 missions.
With a range of up to 50 kilometers, about 80% of missions involving unmanned ground systems focus on logistics with medical evacuations, offensive use and other types of missions making up the rest.
“This is about high technology protecting the highest value – human life,” Zelenskyy said.
Ukraine’s expertise in drone warfare has been in high demand on the international stage, especially since the start of the war in Iran.
