On Monday, a 16-year-old boy was detained at his home, while a 15-year-old girl was detained after she turned herself in to police, Rennes prosecutor Frederic Teillet said in a statement.

“Therefore, it is the two young men who were seen with the victim at the scene on the afternoon of the event, who are currently in police custody on the charge of “killing a minor”, said Teillet.

The victim was 11 years old, not 12 as first reported, Teillet said.

The boy’s body was found after a fisherman alerted police to the cries of a child in the area, a police source told AFP.

Divers searched the river Monday as multiple police vehicles cordoned off the area.

"A child about 10 years old, I can’t believe it," a 57-year-old man walking by the scene who gave his first name as Stephane said.
