You didn’t think it was about Hawkins, did you?
Of course not! Now that the main show is over, it’s time for the spin-offs, sequels, and reboots of the slice-of-life TV show to kick in.
The first in what Netflix THERE already promised to be a Stranger Things-iverse it’s here: Foreign things: Tales from ’85.
The ten-episode show hit the airwaves this week, with all 30-minute episodes (fans of the main narrative show will know those running times are unheard of) up for grabs.
With the Duffer brothers executive producing, the show takes place between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things, in what might be thought of as a happier, more innocent pre-Vecna.

Maybe to overcome the fact that none of the actors look that age anymorethis spin-off is entirely animated.
Instead, we have a whole new cast of actors voicing Mike (Luca Diaz), Dustin (Braxton Quinney), Lucas (Elisha Williams), Will (Benjamin Plessala) and Eleven (Brooklyn Davey Norstedt).
It’s January 1985, and Will has just returned from the Upside Down, after a monster grabbed him and dragged him into the underworld that lurked beneath Hawkins. Then, Eleven had closed the gate to Hawkins Lab.
The gang, perhaps naively, think their run-ins with the supernatural are a thing of the past. They are more focused on their friendship with Hawkins’ newborn Nikki (Marty Supreme Odessa A’zion), riding their bikes around town and playing Dungeons and Dragons, according to.
The stakes are quite low, perhaps for the first time in Stranger Things, because we know where the characters are going next if you look at the main narrative.
Instead, it’s a way to enhance the fun, vibe-based side of the show’s success. With a side of strange creatures, of course. But we know our favorites will make it out alive (for now…).
Although the kids have some explaining to do to Nikki, which is compared to the audience’s perspective by host Eric Robles.
He was tasked by the Duffer brothers with figuring out exactly how the monsters would be able to break the hold, given the season two finale, which he said struck him as he did a deep dive into the show and the 1980s movies.
