Chennai: In a bid to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state, Tamil Nadu power distribution utility TNPDCL will set up special monitoring teams in all districts.
of Tamil Nadu The move by Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) to set up monitoring teams came in the backdrop of a series of power outages in several districts, particularly in Chennai and its suburbs.
An official release said Tamil Nadu currently supplies power to about 35.2 million consumers. Electricity is distributed through 1,910 substations, over 4,47,000 transformers and an extensive distribution network.
Specialized monitoring teams will act to quickly repair faults, reduce the duration of power outages and improve customer satisfaction.
Further, for emergency maintenance and immediate power restoration work, emergency allowances have been sanctioned up to Rs.1,00,000 for Chief Engineers, up to Rs.75,000 for Superintending Engineers, up to Rs.50,000 for Operating Engineers, up to Rs.20,000 for Operating Engineers up to Rs.1,000.00. for junior assistants and engineers.
A review meeting chaired by Power Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar held on Wednesday also reviewed measures to immediately rectify intermittent power outages caused by sudden faults such as damage to buried cables, transformer failures, line breaks, seasonal factors such as rain and wind, RMU (ring main unit) malfunctions such as high power failure and fault high energy. The objective was to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers in the affected urban and suburban areas, the announcement said.
