The President of the United States Donald Trump on Saturday said an agreement to end the war Iran will be signed on Sunday, also adding that the Strait of Hormuz will be “open to all” shortly thereafter.
“The agreement is scheduled to be signed tomorrow, and immediately after its signing, the Strait of Hormuz is OPEN TO ALL,” the president said in a Truth Social post.
Trump also said his deal with Iran was the “exact opposite” of the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama.
“Barack Hussein Obama’s deal with Iran, the JCPOA, was an easy, nice and smooth path to a nuclear weapon that Iran would have had six years ago and would have used long before now,” his post read.
“My deal with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL WITHOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS! In fact, they no longer want a nuclear weapon, nor will they acquire one, whether through acquisition, development, or any other form of procurement,” he said.
Trump claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been effectively neutralized and that the remaining nuclear material would be destroyed at a later stage.
“In due time, when everything is quiet, we will go in and take the Nuclear Dust, buried deep under the mighty mountains of sunken granite, thanks to our beautiful B-2 bombers and their brilliant pilots, and we will mix and destroy it, whether in Iran or in the United States,” he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei cautioned against commenting on the timing of the signing.
“We will have to wait and see the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it will not be tomorrow. Reuters reported, citing the state media source that Baghaei quoted.
“It is not excluded that this will happen in the coming days. However, due to the reluctance of the other side, we should be cautious in commenting about this process.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said earlier that the United States and Iran were in the final stages of negotiations and that an electronic signing ceremony for the agreement was planned for Sunday.
Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said: “We are closer to a peace agreement than ever before. With the conclusion expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace agreement soon after, followed by technical level talks next week.”
“We are confident that this historic peace agreement will form a solid foundation for lasting peace,” he said.
