The victim spoilers for Saturday’s (May 24) episode now available to watch follow BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will be broadcast on BBC One at 8.10pm.
Stevie Nashand (Elinor Lawless) was moved after receiving a letter from the mother of a little boy whose life she saved.
But it wasn’t just the kind words that brought her to tears, it was the mum’s mention of her co-star Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes), who tragically died at the end of the last box.
Medical resident Kim, as viewers will recall, took weight-loss injections and suffered multiple organ failure in heartbreaking scenes.
Her death it had a devastating effect on those around himespecially Stevie and roommate Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius).
Stevie has also struggled with pain, and earlier this month, her prescription was suddenly changed to an opioid. At first, she vowed to do without them — but a stressful day in the ED made her take the drug.
Abigail, a young girl who was rescued by Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) from the explosion of the Wyvern estate, was treated by Stevie, who – after the opioidstook effect – gave a lot of morphine to the patient.
Matty realized what had happened and confronted Stevie, but he ultimately didn’t tell her what he did, instead taking the blame when she confronted him from Dylan Keogh (William Beck).
But Dylan came to believe that Matty was at fault and, despite it being his son, considered reporting him. When he revealed the discovery to Stevie, she admitted that reporting him was the right call, not knowing that she was the one who made the mistake.
Matty then told her about her mistake and, horrified, Stevie decided she would own up. The unsuspecting Dylan, however, decided not to report his son and, in light of her revelation, Stevie withheld the charge.
But the day in question was difficult for her, and as her shift ended, she broke down reading a letter from the mother of a little boy named Oscar, whom she had treated earlier.
“Thought you would like to know that he is doing much better now,” the letter read. “I will never be able to repay you for what you did that day, especially Dr Chang. He would have died without her bravery.’
