Training camp is well underway for Saskatchewan Roughridersand while it’s still not a full application with tampons, there are a lot of interesting stories we’re following when it comes to list the battles.
While the Riders may have most of their Gray Cup-winning offense back, receiver the room is looking quite different, making the passing battle one of the biggest in training camp.
Veteran receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker has taken some direction when it comes to the young Riders.
“It’s up to us vets to make sure the young guys are caught, so we were out there giving them all the things, the nuances to make their game better and we can always learn from their game as well,” Schaffer-Baker said. “It’s been a blessing.”

With Ajou Ajou out of the picture, there’s a real opportunity for young Canadian talent to step up, and Dhel Duncan-Busby looks like one of the early contenders. It’s a piece he’s been working on for a while.
“It means a lot, you know, because at the beginning of last year I was in a little bit of the same situation,” Duncan-Busby said. “I started and once he came back, I went away a bit more and became a special team role, so to solidify a starting point meant the world.”
As for the rookies, former USask Huskies star Daniel Wiebe is one to keep an eye on, drawing the attention of quarterback Trevor Harris and coach Corey Mace.
“Coming here, he’s a lot more confident, you know, the ball found him in boot camp and he found it today, so he’s just got to keep guarding. You know us, we switch rotations, but I was happy with his practice.”
And while roster spots are up for grabs, the core of this receiving group still looks strong with KeeSean Johnson, Sam Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker.
