Pakistan Embassy in Muscat resumes passport services after global outage


Passport services at the Pakistan Embassy in Muscat have resumed after a week-long suspension caused by a technical glitch at the headquarters in Islamabad, providing relief to expatriates in Oman.

Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari, Pakistan’s ambassador to Oman, said all passport-related services, including renewals and new issues, resumed on Wednesday under a single-entry system.

“Applicants can now visit the embassy to process their passport applications. There are no appointments. It’s an open system. We issue land and process more than 100 applications a day,” the ambassador said.

Services had been suspended since April 29 due to a system failure that affected Pakistani missions around the world, including some in the Gulf region.

The outage left many overseas Pakistanis struggling with travel, visa and residency requirements, with embassies in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia also affected.

The Embassy has advised applicants to visit during official business hours as normal activities resume.
