New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu here on Tuesday as the two leaders discussed continued cooperation under the BRICS framework and reviewed progress in bilateral ties.
The Doval-Shoigu meeting took place on the sidelines of the NSAs meeting BRICS nations.
NSA Doval met his counterpart Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS NSAs Meeting, said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
“Both sides discussed their ongoing cooperation under the BRICS framework, including several proposals put forward by Russia. They also reviewed the progress in their bilateral cooperation in various spheres, in line with the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” Jaiswal said in a post on X.
New Delhi is hosting the conclave as the current chairman of the influential grouping.
BRICS, originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, was expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Indonesia joining in 2025.
BRICS has emerged as an influential grouping as it brings together 11 of the world’s leading emerging economies, representing about 49.5 percent of the global population, about 40 percent of global GDP and about 26 percent of global trade.
