Kuwait launches online visa service for domestic workers and drivers via Sahel app, strengthening sponsorship rules

Part of the broader digital transformation push

The ministry said the initiative is part of efforts to digitize government transactions, streamline recruitment procedures and streamline residency-related services. The platform allows users to complete applications without visiting service centers, improving efficiency and reducing processing time.

Updated sponsorship eligibility rules

The notification also introduced revised rules governing the sponsorship of domestic workers and drivers:

  • Single women: have the right to sponsor only one domestic worker

  • Married/divorced/widowed women with children: a domestic worker and a driver

  • Married/divorced/widowed men with families: up to three domestic workers and one driver

  • Single men: are eligible to sponsor only one driver

Labor regulation and governance improvement

The ministry said the updated system aims to better regulate domestic job categories, ensure fair use of services and strengthen digital governance across government platforms.
