Over the last few weeks, ITV soap Emmerdale has shed light on workplace bullying involving the resident physician Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Factory) and his boss Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).

Doctor Todd, for a reason that has yet to be revealed, has attacking Jacob’s faith at every opportunity. She seems to enjoy belittling him when she should really be focusing on how to help this young doctor adjust to life in a busy NHS hospital.

To really mess with Jacob’s mind, the surgeon also messes with him by being nice and showering him with compliments. It’s reached the stage now where Jacob can’t tell which side of Doctor Todd he’s going to face.

One of the most intense moments so far in this story was when Doctor Todd told Jacob that he would never complete his training, essentially calling him useless.

This came after Jacob went against Caitlin’s father’s DNR and gave him CPR. Angry and upset, Doctor Todd has a massive attack on Jacob, which causes him to leave the hospital in tears.

Someone who has understood Doctor Todd’s bullying behavior is Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton). She overheard Todd patronizing Jacob and confronted him privately about it afterward. Kerry then made the mistake of bringing up Jacob’s story with one old woman taking advantage of him.

It didn’t take long for Doctor Todd to learn that Jacob had been groomed and abused by his school teacher Maya when he was younger. She googled Maya, with fans wondering if she was planning to use this new knowledge to its advantage.

Next week, Jacob struggles with his work life blurring into his home life now that Doctor Todd is living in the country. His stress is further compounded when he learns that he has been called as a witness Wolf Bearand (Joshua Richards) judgment.

Seeing his anguish, Ross Barton (Michael Parr) checks with Jacob and learns about his bullying boss, but is somewhat surprised to discover that it is a woman.

Ross advises Jacob to talk to him, so he heads over and asks Dr. Todd if he can have a word.

During the week, Jacob takes a big step by deciding to file a formal complaint with Doctor Todd’s employers.
