‘I’m sorry, mom’: Last words of Maharashtra NEET aspirant who died by suicide


An 18-year-old student from Maharashtra’s Hingoli District, which recently appeared for NEET-UG retestallegedly died by suicide after recording a video message to his mother on his cell phone, officials said Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Sushil Dhage, was preparing for admission to a medical course and had recently completed the re-examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).

An investigation has been launched to determine if the student’s death had anything to do with the national medical entrance exam. Family members have claimed that Sushil found the re-test difficult and was worried after appearing for it.

According to officials, the teenager recorded a video message on his cell phone before taking the extreme step. In the video, he is heard saying to his mother: “I’m sorry.”

Police are reviewing the video and other evidence as part of the investigation. The statements of the student’s family members and acquaintances are also being recorded

“The family’s complaint talks about NEET re-examination. We are investigating the case and looking into whether there is any connection between the examination and the incident,” said an official from the Hingoli city police station.

Officials said a conclusion has not yet been reached on whether the examination played a role in the incident and further investigations are underway.
