Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition R Ashoka on Wednesday accused the Congress government of “continuously postponing” Bengaluru municipal elections “for fear of defeat”.
Addressing a press conference, Ashoka said postponing the elections amounted to “betrayal” of citizens in the city.
“If the elections had been held for the earlier 198 wards, they would have been over long ago. However, after the division of Bengaluru into five parts, the internal polls of the Congress reportedly showed a certain defeat. That is why the government is deliberately postponing the elections,” said Ashoka, who represents the Padmanabhanagar Assembly constituency in the city.
Ashoka also alleged that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is in charge of Bengaluru, wanted to delay the polls until he became the chief minister.
“Due to Congress’ infighting, garbage is piling up on the streets of Bengaluru today and no development work is happening. Congress is directly responsible for this,” he said.
The BJP, Ashoka said, was “fully prepared” for the elections.
