Very special edition
Given all the talk of remakes at the moment, and BethesdaIt’s less than quick progress with The Elder Scrolls 6, I have to wonder why there’s never been a remake of Skyrim. There have been a dozen different remasters and special editions, but despite being 15 years old now, I’ve never heard anyone talk about remaking it.
If the next game is still two or three years away, why didn’t they try to fill the gap with a change to Skyrim? I’m sure people would be more interested in that than most Starfield DLC. It wouldn’t have taken Bethesda time either, as they could have gotten someone else to do it, as is often the case with remakes.
I feel like there’s a lot of that feeling at the moment, where gamers seem to have a better understanding of what makes sense and what would sell than the publishers. So, since this is a good idea (in my opinion), I assume it will never happen.

The old war
or the PlayStation 5 boycott it’s exactly the kind of thing that would change SonyI have my heart set on physical games, but let’s face it, that’s never going to happen. Not only will no one do it, but those who claim to care will suddenly find excuses and loopholes as to why they shouldn’t.

The time to do all this was 10 years ago or whenever it was they killed second hand games. That’s when the balance shifted and the publishers won. After all, buying a game online is a lot easier than going out to a store and buying it and then putting in the disc. It’s just too much effort and people aren’t into it.

You can’t shoot a tornado
I was watching Twister, the original not the lackluster sequel, and thought that tornadoes are a bit like dinosaurs in terms of gaming. There aren’t enough tornadoes in games, just like there aren’t enough dinosaurs. Tornadoes are another open target lost in game development. Tornadoes in real life must be amazing to witness from a safe distance, but a nightmare up close. In a game, tornadoes would provide a great obstacle and lead to fun physics.
Apparently tornadoes appeared in Just Cause 4 and I vaguely remember encountering them in SimCity. It would be nice if the tornadoes appeared GTA 6but I don’t think they have that kind of weather in that part of America. Or do they?

GC: At least tornadoes are hard to portray in a video game, unlike dinosaurs, so there’s an excuse. However, there were Tornado outbreaks during the Xbox 360 era, and a tornado is central to the plot of the first Life Is Strange movie. We are sure there are many more examples.

There are no returns
Well, I’ll take the PlayStation 5 hiatus. I’m sick of Sony flexing its muscles whenever it wants. Back in the day of the PlayStation 3, you could pre-order a PlayStation 3 game without paying up to a few days before it was released. The PlayStation 4 just came out, you pre-order a game and they want payment right away and if you cancel your pre-order, instead of getting your money back in the bank, it goes into your wallet because like most companies they don’t want your money back.
I’ve already decided that once my PS5 Pro goes up in smoke, I’m done with gaming. A lot of it comes down to Sony telling me where to buy my games and making excuses to put prices on PS Plus. I don’t care what anyone says PS Plus prices shouldn’t have gone up in price. I don’t care what anyone who comes in greed says. PlayStation 3 was free to play online, now it’s over £60 a year depending on how you pay.

Not far enough
I would have guessed that Far Cry 6 was even longer than 2021. It seems so long since people were talking about that series. I can’t help but think that it has basically run its course and Ubisoft would be better off spending the money on making something new.
I know it’s supposed to be hard to make a new IP a success, but does anyone other than Ubisoft think a multiplayer spin-off of Far Cry will it be a hit? However, the previous games had co-op, so I don’t think maximizing that idea will make much of a difference. There’s so little in Far Cry that needs to be in it – first person and open world is at the core – you can be a lot more imaginative than that.

I hope Capcom knows what it’s doing with trying to have a new Resident Evil every year. They are flying high at the moment but can easily end up in the weeds if they are not careful. After Resident Evil 0 and a new Resident Evil 1, the only remakes left are 5 and 6, and I really don’t know if they’re worth doing.
Even if they are, there’s nothing left after that, and you’d think they’d have to rely on spin-offs instead. I’m confused as to why they say at least one a year and yet there are no spin-offs, so I can assume they’re counting the DLC as a release.
If I were them, I’d advise getting creative with spin-offs. Revelations is underrated, but I miss the days when you got light gun games and weird handheld games and, who knows, maybe one day they’ll even make a decent multiplayer game.
Personally, I would try to expand with other types of games. Maybe something more detective based, like Return Of The Obra Dinn or something – which already had horror elements anyway. Or a point-and-click adventure or visual novel, like Phoenix Wright. Or maybe some sort of strategy or management game.
If they’re going to keep aging the characters for real, maybe they could make a game where Leon is given a desk job and he orders people around, a bit like Dispatch. Then at the end he is called for one last mission. Call me Capcom, my consulting fees are very reasonable!
Hunter 9
It’s not done yet
I’m a little worried about that too Tomb Raider it may have passed its sell by date. Like the other reader, I’ve liked everything I’ve seen of the new games so far, but is it too little too late?
Crystal Dynamics has been making these games for so long and I thought they might be a bit worn out by now and should probably give it to someone else, but it really looks like it might be their best work yet. Considering the trouble they’ve been through in recent years, that’s impressive. I hope they get a chance to shine.

God of planning
With one The second new God Of War game announced now, and probably not coming out until 2031, I wonder how far exactly this story is planned. Unless the next one is suddenly the end of the story, which seems unlikely, he has those things sketched out for decades at a time? A decade sounds like a long time, but it’s really only time to make two triple-A games, so it’s not really that much.
They said they’ve been planning to make the game with Faye for at least a decade, so are there other things planted in there that we’ll only find out about later? I don’t want to know ahead of time, I’m just curious because it seems like it’s the only franchise that’s planned at the moment. Don’t tell me they have a proper plan for Call Of Duty or Assassin’s Creed or whatever, because I won’t believe it.
It’s nice in theory, but you have to wonder who will ever see it all. Will Cory Barlog work on these until his 70s? When old games become more than 20 or 30 years old, will they have to be revamped again and again to keep them playable for new generations? Like the Resident Evil games.
Not saying they shouldn’t, but it seems like a lot of work to me. And what happens when actors are no longer available? Will they reshape or use AI? Having a franchise last forever must sound good to publishers, but it almost seems like more trouble than it’s worth.

Inbox-ka too
He was playing Splatoon Raiders over the weekend and I love it. I won’t claim it’s doing anything new, but it’s fun. It really has the best shooting controls in any shooter, if you ask me.

I see that Yoshi-P is talking about remaking Final Fantasy 6 again, as a four or five part series. I would love it, but how long would it take to come out? This could easily be in three different generations, depending on when they start.
