Gaming Inbox: Is Valve Steam Machine Worth It?

Tuesday’s letters page discusses the possibility of GTA 6 being cheaper than the average, as a reader is very surprised to learn this God of War Laufey was scheduled in 2018.

Mostly hardcore
I understand it’s not their fault, but steam car price it’s so ridiculous I’m surprised everyone didn’t cancel it. Although I think there is enough hardcore The valve fans sell everything they’ve done so far.

I fear this is a sign of things to come for him PlayStation 6especially if Sony will push forward with one Launch 2027. Steam car isn’t worth it either way because you can just buy a better PC for the same price, but what do you do when the PlayStation 6 costs £600+?

I’m not paying for this, as I can already guarantee it won’t do much differently, and I’d say I’m a pretty dedicated player, so I don’t see who else will bite it.

This just further convinces me that there will be no PlayStation 6 exclusive games, they will just be interspersed all the way through and spot the difference for the PlayStation 6 version.

Early entry
I have to say the price of the new Steam Machine was pretty much what I expected and I’m glad I pulled the trigger back in January to get my first gaming PC. (Something I’ve been delaying since November, which cost me dearly!)

It’s a shame the hardware has gone the way it has since last year’s pricing Steam Machine was really an opportunity for them to shake things up a bit. I imagine there will be a rush for them regardless and they will be all over eBay when they first come out. But you’d have to be crazy to order one when you can get a more powerful computer for that price point. One more PlayStation 5 seems like a better deal and I’m speaking as an avid Steam Deck owner.

Weird delay
People talk about NintendoOdd choices of games to bring back but Capcom still not saying a word about Devil May Cry 6 there is no explanation as far as I can see. There have been more rumors of a new Ace Attorney than there has been one the young devil may cryand even when there is one it’s just a shoot.

I won’t complain too much because they clearly know what they’re doing at this point considering how successful they’ve been, but I just don’t get it. Hopefully it will all be worth it when it comes out, however, it would be unfortunate if Capcom stopped with what should be an easy win for them.

Artificial art
I think it’s pretty clear that a lot of companies are going to try and make games using only AI but I find it hard to imagine they will be anything other than complete rubbish. Maybe you could do a match-three puzzle or something, but I’d doubt that either.

Anyone who thinks it’s possible is basically insulting the entire concept of video games and denying that they have any kind of art or skill to make them. It’s bad enough with movies, but at least then a skilled person can put the little 20 second clips together and try to make something out of them. It always looks terrible, but at least it works to some degree. But a game? It’s impossible unless you’re just talking about a map or something.

I have a bad feeling we’re going to have to wait years, see thousands of people out of a job, and spend millions of dollars before publishers figure it out.

Game not included
Someone on Underbox yesterday mentioned about collector’s editions of games being released without the game. I tried to reply but couldn’t because the comments section wouldn’t let me post this:

This happened with one of the Xenoblade games on Switch 1, the standard game was released but the collector’s edition was delayed due to production delays, so when they released the collector’s edition they didn’t include a game with it as most fans would have already bought the game physically or digitally.

GC: It has happened more often than that. It’s common that the really expensive collector’s editions, with the statutes and whatnot, don’t actually include the game.

Below standard
My guess for GTA 6 price is that there is a version of the game, maybe the standard version or something, that will actually be cheaper than normal, probably around £40. I think they will want to lower the barrier to entry, not build it.

They’re going to put something out though, maybe make it just a city or something, because what they’re going to be desperate to do is get people online. The reality is that the story campaign is really just an attractive way for the Internet. That’s where all the money is, and whatever billions they spend making it will be returned tenfold once people start buying microtransactions online.

I’m sure there will be more expensive editions, and all that, but they’ll be for superfans, not defaults. It’s just lucky for Rockstar that they have a lot of superfans.

People don’t have a lot of spare cash these days, but there are so many who will make an exception for GTA 6. However, Rockstar will be very keen to bring in the cash as soon as possible and, in my opinion, they’ll be more than happy to let superfans subsidize randoms who will think spending £100 on a video game is crazy.

Trailer Bingo
Will there be a Trailer 3 drop before pre-orders go live? It’s normally a Tuesday, so if there isn’t a Tuesday, who knows when it will drop.

But hopefully it will be the 25th so they can get everyone talking about it and ordering and, yes, that’s right, I’ll be pre-ordering like I do with all my games.

GC: The last two could be on Tuesday, but Rockstar gave an advance warning about them. Anything is possible, but Trailer 3 on Thursday is more likely, and just doing it on a completely different day is just as likely.

Long game
I can’t call the actress a liar, but I am shocked at the idea that God Of War Laufey was originally planned at the same time as the original game. That 2018 game was pretty grounded and serious, but they were already talking about adding a talking gelatinous cube as a sidekick to Kratos’ wife (who they didn’t even think to show until Ragnarök)? I find this very hard to believe.

Laufey seems such a sharp change in tone, I get that the original plan was to make Atreus the new main character, but then they realized no one liked him so they switched to his mom instead. I’m fine with that because I don’t like him either and I’m fine with the combat being more like Devil May Cry, but this all seems like a weird direction to go in, especially if it’s all part of a 10 year plan they had all along.

I think Kratos should die very quickly in one of these games. He needs some kind of big heroic closure to his character, not to be a Sony mascot they dig up every five years. We also need to be told what is happening to Earth and which gods actually exist and which don’t.

I’m going to make a wild bet and say that no modern religion will show up, so I really don’t see if the whole side of the story is going to go. The action in the Laufey trailer looked good, but all the gods from different religions made me think of that awful Thor movie with Russel Crowe as Zeus. I’m sure Laufey won’t be that weird, but I’m not sure it will end up making much sense.

Inbox-ka too
All I can say about the Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake is that they better make sure the Temple of the ReDead and the Forest are scary. Those sections were great in the original and I would hate if they were toned down for the remake.

So another day goes by and no Half-Life 3 announcement, huh? I hope that the Steam Machines problems will be cancelled, if it actually exists.
