Former resident returning to HK from Scotland for charity


A social media influencer and former Hong Kong resident is returning to Hong Kong from Scotland aiming to raise £1m (HK$10.5 million) to Scottish charities.

Kate Barr, 30 – known on Instagram as @edukate__ – is currently in Munich, Germany, having set off from Dumfries, a town in the south of Scotland, on April 19.

She is fundraising for Scottish Action for Mental Health, the Befriending Project – which tackles loneliness in the community and The Usual Place – a specialist training academy for people with additional support needs.

“I want people to understand that ordinary people can do extraordinary things,” she said in a press release Thursday.

The 10,000-mile journey will take him across Europe and Turkey, and into Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China. For security reasons, it will fly over Iran and Myanmar due to ongoing conflicts.

The press release said Barr “hopes the trip will inspire others to contribute in any way they can – whether through donations, volunteering, advocacy or supporting local charities”.

As of Thursday, she has grown more than £800 (HK$8,400).
