Fire engulfs Mission nursing home, residents forced to evacuate – BC

A huge fire broke out in a nursing home MISSION Monday night and crews battled to extinguish the flames as residents evacuated the area.

Dozens of residents poured into the streets after their home burst into flames and smoke around 6 p.m.

Columns of fire and smoke could be seen pouring out of the Chartwell Carrington House on the south side of 7th Avenue, with the fire appearing to be coming from the third floor of the multi-unit complex.

Mission RCMP said they are working to confirm everyone made it out safely.

Nursing home residents were bused to the Mission Leisure Center at 7th Avenue and Grand Street. Family members visiting loved ones should go to the Leisure Centre, not the retirement home. Emergency support services are on scene there to assist evacuees, according to RCMP.
