The biggest reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026 was the third The ultimate fantasy 7 remake games and will be released in all formats at the same time.
This year’s Summer Game Fest was definitely one of the best yet, but as always, it was a frustrating experience to watch, as while there were plenty of exciting games, most barely made it to the stage for a minute or two before the focus immediately shifted to something else.
So while you get new looks in games such as Resident Evil VeronicaAlien: Isolation 2, and genATLAS (from the creator of ICO) were excellent, there was very little official information and relatively little to glean from the footage itself.
However, some games got a little more time to shine and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation got more than any other as it was the mic drop announcement at the end of the show. The final part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, will be released in spring 2027 simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Seemingly against the odds, the first two parts – Final Fantasy 7 remake AND Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – have been incredibly good, managing to honor the original PS1 game while also reinventing its gameplay, expanding its story, and being completely accessible to anyone who doesn’t already know the story.
As such, there’s every reason to expect Revelation to be just as good, especially since Rebirth was our Game of the Year in 2024. However, it wasn’t a perfect experience, and while the mileage varied, many felt the open-world element was too bloated and bloated.

whether Square Enix thought they should respond to the criticism that they didn’t show during the reveal, with a lot of hype being made about the fact that it’s the ‘most expansive’ open world yet, and that you can pilot the Highwind plane anywhere you want and instantly parachute into whatever is below you.
Beyond that, the trailer featured everything you’d expect, including vampire Vincent Valentine (who, like Yuffie, was only an optional character in the original) and Higwind pilot Cid as a playable character.
Different weapons – super strong enemy bosses – also appear, and you can now change each character’s outfit, which changes their attributes and abilities accordingly.
It wasn’t mentioned exactly when the game will be released in the spring, but technically that should put it sometime between March and May. This suggests that the game was not originally planned for this year and is not trying to get out of its way GTA 6.
The reveal of the game wasn’t the only time Final Fantasy 7 was mentioned during the Summer Game Fest, where Tifa appeared as one of the new characters for the fourth season. Street Fighter 6.
Like most things at Summer Game Fest, that was hinted at before, but it makes sense since she’s the brawler of the group. Although it is rare for Street Fighter to feature parts of characters from non-Capcom games.
The other three fighters are all brand new, which is always nice to see, with Yasmine and Arjun being complete unknowns at the moment. Bosch was in Street Fighter 6’s story mode as your rival, but he’s never been playable before, though we can assume he’s a light hand with an electric drill.
