A man in his 80s died after falling into a grain bin on his farm in Lancashire.
The accident happened on a farm in Burscough, north of Ormskirk, on Thursday when the farmer plunged into the storage structure.
Emergency services rushed to Orrell Farm to rescue the man, who has been named locally as John.
Crews opened the trap in an attempt to reach him, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said he had known John and his wife for years and the pair ‘kept to themselves’, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The neighbor said: ‘We saw all the emergency services arrive at the scene. The firemen were doing JOBS in the shed, I think they should cut into it.
“It’s very sad, he was a good man and it wasn’t long before he cultivated all the grain from the fields. Even at his age he was still out in the fields farming.’
Footage from the scene appears to show a pile of grain next to three massive silos next to a field, with people inspecting
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: ‘At 4.37pm on Thursday 21 May we were called to reports of an industrial accident on a farm in Orrell Lane, Burscough.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
