Coronation Street Fans are gearing up to find out which villain is set to meet their creator Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swainand (Vicky Myers) the wedding day and the producer Kate Brooks has promised some ‘hitting’ episodes ahead.
While Carla and Lisa have been planning their wedding, the villains of the street have been working overtime, competing for the title of Baddest Baddie.
However, one of them will regret their misdeeds next week when their lives come to a dramatic end – but who will be and who will be?
There are five potential victims in the frame, and each of them a vile villain in their own way.
There’s Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) who, apart from meddling in her neighbors’ lives, seems to be hiding a nasty secret this can set Shona (Julia Goulding) and the rest of Platts at risk.
Then there’s Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), whose secret affair with Jim McDonald recently came out – not to mention she’s covering up a murder of her own, after pushing her ex-husband down the stairs.
Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) is also in the spotlight now that her care of Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) has been exposed, while Theo Silvertonand (James Cartwright) abuse of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) has put him in the firing line as well.
Finally, there’s Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), who has managed to upset just about everyone on the cobblestones with his various misdeeds, from hits and affairs to stealing from his family and framing them for his crimes.
In an exciting build-up to the final reveal, viewers will be treated to five special episodes, each focusing on one of the potential victims.
“As complicated as the stories are, as a viewer, it’s very easy to follow because you’re following an individual story,” explained producer Kate.
“It’s easy to keep track of what’s going on. We aimed to make each episode feel like a mini-movie, where the hook was ‘we still don’t know who’s been killed.’
Of course, planning a story with so many moving parts takes a lot of work, as Kate pointed out.

“It was a very complicated story-telling process! I lost some sleep and my hair was torn out a bit! Usually, in a never-ending week, you have a victim and the suspects. We had five possible suspects and we had to make sure all the stories fit together and make sense and go to the right place and come together.
“Even on the rise, it’s building and the momentum is really strong. It could be any of them. It was to make sure the stars aligned to have this nice week.
“The flip side of that is, moving forward, there are so many different ramifications for each individual character. Then we also have the who? We have that big story moving forward, and we find out what’s going on with all those other characters. It’s very complex, but also satisfying and enjoyable.’
She added that structuring the week of episodes in this way allowed Corrie to ‘follow different scenes and inject levity and humour’ into the episodes.
This allowed us to give her some levity, especially in the Jodie episode. It’s really funny. David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is really drunk at this wedding, and it’s very laugh-out-loud funny because Jack is great at it, and Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine). All kinds of shenanigans going on. We dive a little into the wedding.’
But fear not Swarla fans! Something as insignificant as the death of a neighbor is not ready to throw away Weatherfield wedding of the year in the mess, despite Kate admitting it was “a beautiful backdrop to everything”.
“Adding to the wedding, we wanted to sell a really happy story full of love and hope and romance, and it’s a beautiful wedding. But obviously, we’re a soap, so we need that backdrop of drama and emotion, but I didn’t want to tarnish the wedding either.
So Carla and Lisa are forgotten. They have no idea. They’re watching fireworks and they see Sally stripped of her jacket – which is one of my favorite moments, by the way. They are having a good time, unaware of the drama unfolding on the street.
“It’s a way of getting the best of both worlds. We’ve got these really exciting stories and a big week, and before that it’s a glorious, joyful wedding of two people falling in love, oblivious to what’s unfolding.’
Kate’s enthusiasm for the week of episodes continued as she praised the team behind them.
“We had great writers on all those episodes and the wedding episode, who gave it a real Corrie feel while still feeling big and bold and different to anything we’ve done before. It’s a great soundtrack. The opening of every episode is a blast. Even if you spend the next 20 minutes dancing to the song in your head! It’s really good.’
