Capcom Should Use Their Money To Reboot Maximo: Ghosts To Glory – Reader’s Feature

with Capcom often bringing back old franchises from their back catalog, one reader hopes to see the return of Ghosts ‘N Goblins spin-off Maximo.

With all the doom and gloom surrounding gaming lately, it’s been great to see everyone cheering Capcom for the achievement of… releasing a load of really good games. They’ve been on a list for years now, but this year they’ve already had it Resident Evil Requiem AND pragmatic and they have a new one Onimusha even on the road.

They’ve always been one of my favorite publishers, probably my favorite that isn’t Nintendobut since then Resident Evil 7 they have barely taken a wrong step. That’s great and something to be congratulated for, in me opinion.

One of the best things is that unlike almost every other publisher Capcom actually reinvests the money it makes to take risks with new IP, like Pragmata, and bring back old franchises that aren’t a guaranteed hit, like Onimusha.

I think they deserve a ton of credit for this one in particular and I’m very happy about that Pragmata has been a hit and they are rewarded for taking a risk. I bought it and I think it’s fantastic and I’m so glad I supported them.

The longer their hot streak lasts, the more obscure the games they bring back, at least potentially, and while most people seem to want to revive Dino Crisis, I have another request: Maximo.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love a Dino Crisis remake or a new game, but I don’t think Maximo is ever talked about. For those who don’t know, Maximo: Ghosts To Glory is a PlayStation 2 game from 2001 that is a spin-off from Ghosts ‘N Goblins. It has the same music and some of the same enemies, but you’re a Roman soldier, for some reason, instead of King Arthur.

It’s a 3D platformer with a bit of combat, which I feel was very well done, but it seemed to be forgotten very quickly at the time. But it had good action, nice cartoony graphics and for a PlayStation 2 game the camera worked really well.

Unfortunately though, there was only one sequel, also only on the PlayStation 2. And then that was it, the series never left the PlayStation 2 or next-gen and I literally haven’t heard anyone talk about it since.

I suppose, regardless of the sequel, that means it didn’t sell as well, and it’s obvious to me why: it was stupidly difficult. Now I love the game, or I wouldn’t be writing this right now, but it’s unnecessarily hard and I don’t know why.

Or at least I didn’t at the time, in later years I looked at the whole Ghosts ‘N Goblins angle, which was a little before my time, and it seems they were also super hard and so are modern games, until Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection.

I really don’t know why that is, since all the games were super hard back then and it’s not like something Mario didn’t adapt to the times and try to keep everyone on board.

Difficulty was always the worst thing about Maximon, as far as I’m concerned, so why they think that’s the most important thing to keep in all these matches, I don’t know. Is anyone really going to complain that it’s too easy? Couldn’t they just have a hard mode? I’m not sure why a cartoon platformer about a guy in boxer shorts is making Dark Souls look like a kid’s game.

So that’s my hope for what Capcom will do next. I don’t think it’s very likely, but I don’t think it’s impossible either, because every now and then they try to bring back Ghosts ‘N Goblins, but not the version of it that I like the most.
