Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called for strict implementation of the zero-tolerance policy on illegal constructions, especially within 0 to 15 km of internal borders, and to demolish all such structures that have come up over the years, officials said.
Shah chaired a review meeting in Bikaner on Tuesday and reviewed the security related issues related to the border districts of Rajasthan along the India-Pakistan border.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, senior state officials, district magistrates and superintendents of police of five border districts were present in the meeting.
In a statement, the interior ministry said that the border districts have been directed to carry out an in-depth study of the sources, patterns and networks behind the crimes and drug menace, and to develop sustainable solutions so that these problems do not re-emerge.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said it has assigned an increased responsibility to district magistrates to ensure legal and financial compliance of banking transactions in border areas by all banks, vet big businesses, examine their sources of funding, track fake accounts and companies, identify fake Aadhaar cards and check cross-border smuggling, officials said.
Shah emphasized on formulating a 360-degree security coverage for each border district involving citizens, state machinery and security agencies.
He underlined the importance of a coordinated approach to border management involving BSF, CBDT, NCB and state machinery to address the issues of infiltration, narcotics smuggling, encroachment, terror financing and other cross-border crimes.
