Tehran’s roadblocks are still under fire as the US and Israel seek to foment revolt

As Israel and the US try to encourage Iranians to rise up against the Islamic regime, they have continued to strike internal security targets in and around Tehran with drones, according to video footage shared by Euractiv.

The video shows a checkpoint run by the Basij militia in Tehran being hit on Friday.

Explosions were heard across the city as at least three checkpoints were destroyed, including a checkpoint on Shahed Street in northern Tehran and one near Imam Reza Highway, according to Western security officials. The number of victims is still unknown.

Euractiv could not independently verify the video, but it was consistent with local reports of a string of attacks.

Earlier this week, the US-Israeli operation destroyed the headquarters and outposts of Iran’s vast internal security apparatus in a wave of attacks across the country. In this latest phase, they have targeted individual checkpoints with small drones, often with the help of locals who report the exact location of Basij checkpoints, according to officials.

The hope in Washington and Jerusalem is that the attacks will prompt Iranians to take to the streets again, as they did in mass protests in January that led to a brutal crackdown. However, so far they have failed to do so.
