Saskatchewan Olympic athletes, officials, coaches and support staff gathered at the legislature to celebrate their contribution to the sporting event after the 2026 Olympics.
“It’s tough against the rest of the provinces in Canada to get there – so many people, so many who are so good,” says Gilbert Dash, Paralympic athlete. “Coming from Saskatchewan, it’s a proud moment to be able to say that.”

Although involved in the sport from a young age, Dash suffered a back and spinal injury in 2006 and after rehabilitation, began curling in a wheelchair in 2008. He has represented Canada at the last three World Wheelchair Curling Championships.
This year, Dash competed in the starting lineup on Team Canada’s wheelchair team at the Paralympics and brought home the gold medal. Being from Kipling, Sask., he said the support made it all worthwhile.
“The gratitude I have for the people who reached out to me, saying they are proud and that this is a goal achieved,” he says.
Figure skating judge Karen Howard also returned to the Olympics this year and says it “takes a village” to raise an athlete and an official.
