Like his epic Comic relief The challenge hits midway, Greg James is surprised by a very famous face for added motivation.
Today, you BBC The Radio 1 broadcaster was joined by Prince i Waleswho was ready with words of encouragement as they cycled through the South Yorkshire countryside.
Greg, 40, set out on his mission on Friday in Weymouth to raise vital funds for Red Nose Day by riding 630 miles (1,000km) across the UK on a tandem bike over eight days.
Providing some welcome leg power this afternoon, Prince William answered Greg’s latest call after being challenged by the host to hit the road with him.
The Prince’s arrival came at a crucial stage after four punishing days of cycling for Greg, who has covered nearly 500km so far.
Speaking during the challenge, the Prince told her: ‘What you’ve done is set an example to help. That’s the thing. It’s volunteering some of your time, putting yourself through a little pain at the same time and supporting others.
“It’s something we do very well in this country, but we don’t shout about it enough.
“This challenge helps everyone see that. And it’s a great team effort. Well done, Greg.’
Having the unexpected company of a fellow royal, Greg called it a ‘tremendous surprise’.
“I was joking when I recorded the last one radio tell him he was more than welcome to show up and play a part in the band, but I didn’t think he’d actually call my bluff,’ he admitted.
“I can’t believe the impact of this strange challenge so far, and it’s beyond my wildest dreams that I’d be trusted to hold the future King in a big, tall tandem.
“Totally weird, but so kind of him to spend some time reinforcing our message to make sure we look after the most vulnerable people in society.”
“He didn’t have to jump up and stare at my back for 40 minutes,” he joked. “But I’m so grateful he did. Unforgettable.’
“Now, if you’ll excuse me,” he concluded. “I have to get back on my bike.”
Today it was revealed that Greg is close to the £1 million mark after raising £927,000 with The Longest Ride.
Day 4 sees him travel 132km through Doncaster, Thorne, Selby and Elvington before hopefully arriving at one of his very favorite places in the UK, York.
