Parts of Karnataka witness thunder; Bidar farmer has died due to lightning


Parts of Kittur and Kalyana regions of Karnataka experienced thundershowers along with gusty winds on Monday.

With maximum temperatures in most parts of north Karnataka hovering around 40 degrees Celsius, last night’s rain gave the region some respite from the scorching heat.

A farmer in Humnabad Taluk of Bidari the circuit died from a lightning strike. Vaijanath Sheregar (60), a native of Muttangi village, was struck dead by lightning while grazing cattle in his farm. His son Srinivas suffered severe burns in the incident.

The Mannaekhelli police have registered a case. Many parts of Humnabad and Chitaguppa witnessed moderate rains, with thunder and strong winds.

Kalaburagi town received light rains while Chincholi experienced hailstorm.

Rains lashed parts of Vijayanagara district, including Hosapete, Kudligi and Hagaribommanahalli towns on Monday evening. A wind turbine was damaged after a lightning strike at Yembli village in Kudligi Taluk.

In the town of Ballari, Sandur and Kampli there has also been light rain. Ballari was hovering below 40 degrees Celsius a few days ago.

Davangere town and parts of the district witnessed hailstorm. Many parts of Kodagu experienced the first rain of the season on Monday. Evening showers brought cheers to coffee growers in the hilly area.

Parts of Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts also witnessed hail storms.
