It probably won’t shock you to learn that someone recently quit OpenAI and took their reasons public to the world on social media. You may have never heard of Caitlin Kalinowski before or her. online statementIt read in part: “I have the deepest respect for Sam and the team. And I’m proud of what we’ve built together.” It doesn’t make for compelling reading at all.
Amid the company’s high-profile deal with the Pentagon, CEO Sam Altman accepted OpenAI’s competitor Anthropic appears to have picked up the slack. Earn unprecedented income After being successful It markets itself as an AI company that wants to protect the world from mass surveillance and autonomous killer robots..
I mention all of this because of Kalinowski’s unique role: she leads the company’s robotics division.
I leave OpenAI. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we create together. This is not an easy call. AI plays an important role in national security. But spying on Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization is…

So when Kalinowski said in her statement, “Lethal autonomous autonomy without human authorization” deserves more consideration than it receives. At least she spoke with some knowledge about the type of AI-powered robots OpenAI had in mind.
according to Wired reports from last yearAn anonymous leaker revealed that OpenAI wants to hire humanoid robot experts. Or at least a robot expert with a partially human-inspired design. It is also working to create AI algorithms that can “understand the physical world” and seeks to “empower robots to navigate and perform tasks.”
Robot-related job advertisements on the OpenAI website Always start with a line. “Our robotics team is focused on unlocking versatile robots and pushing them towards AGI-level intelligence in dynamic real-world settings.”
This does not mean that any of OpenAI’s goals in robotics will be achieved. But when the person responsible for the most Terminator-like technology in your company leaves? And it’s strongly implied that it’s because leadership is nothing more than that. Too warm with the man who calls himself Secretary of War.That might be the right time for those in the C-suite to do some soul-searching.
