IN Debbie Websterand (Sue Devaney) Darkest Hour, the Coronation Street legend is saved by her guardian angel…n disgusting and ruined little angel.
If anyone needs a miracle, it’s poor old Deb. As it was framed for dangerous driving and manslaughter by professional sleazbag Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) – her brother, who actually turned out to be her son – the dashing manager of the Chariot Square Hotel is currently seeking a long stay at His Majesty’s Pleasure.
Prison is a scary place for anyone, especially if you happen to be struggling with dementia. Debbie’s diagnosis is the reason Carl was able to give her the Corriedale crash in the first place. Now she is behind bars and separated from her beloved husband Ronnie Bailey (Morgan won) and brother Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), alone and confused. What Debbie needed was someone on her side…
Sign in Lou Michaelis (Farrell Hegarty). Corrie fans were pleased to recognize this familiar face from Kalldrëmiintroduced in 2019 when she and her family moved next door Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) as part of a Neighbors from Hell scenario—and boy, they weren’t kidding.
After her husband was sent to prison for murdering Cobbles’ beloved copper Craig Tinker (Colson Smith)Lou himself was later sent for brutal assault Gary Windass (Mikey North). The couple’s children John (Savannah Pennington) and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) were prompted by my (Joe Duttine) and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor).
Now Lou has formed an unlikely partnership with Debbie as she helps her new friend navigate prison life. She even defended against it fellow prisoner Paula (Kelly Hollis), who started a fight with Debbie when her madness caused her to speak without a filter.
Unfortunately, Lou’s time with Debbie is coming to an end, as actress Faye Heggarty recently confirmed that her character is bent once again by Weatherfield.
“I’m off the show now. I’ve stopped filming,” she said in an episode of the series Girlfriend material podcast. “I came back to Corrie for a short period. I was (initially) on it for six months and I came back because I’m in prison. She’s in prison. She’s not a good girl.
With Debbie’s appeal looming, this is her chance to escape prison and join her nearest and dearest on the Cobblestones. The only thing that can ruin her chances is saying the wrong thing – which is happening more and more thanks to her advanced insanity. Since Debbie was sent to prison, her condition has taken a rapid turn for the worse due to a change in her routine. Lou has been helping Debbie as best she can, but when the appeal goes awry, future episodes of Coronation Street will see the jailbird make the ultimate sacrifice for her friend.
As Debbie and Lou return to their cells, Debbie suddenly becomes disoriented – a telltale sign that her dementia is worsening. Will she pass the appeal?
On the day of the appeal, things get off to a bad start when Debbie accuses a prison officer of stealing her diary. Worried that Debbie will lose her chances of getting out of jail, Lou causes a distraction… by starting a fight with another inmate.
