Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 | Congress finalizes candidates; there are no places for deputies, accused of sexual assault


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After much effort, the Congress has finalized the candidates for the remaining seats in the Kerala for the April 9 elections.

Former Kannur corporator TO Mohanan has become the candidate in Kannur, the seat MP K Sudhakaran was lobbying for.

AICC released the list within hours of Sudhakaran declaring that he would accept the party’s decision.

District Congress committee president Satheesh Kochuparambil has entered Konni in Pathanamthitta, a seat Congress MLA Adoor Prakash is said to have settled for. Congress student activist AD Thomas is in Alappuzha.

Thiruvananthapuram city corporation ward member and former MLA KS Sabarinadhan has entered Nemom from where BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar is contesting with high hopes of winning back the saffron party’s top seat in the Kerala assembly.

Sandeep Varier, who joined Congress from BJP in 2024, will contest from Trikaripur in Kasargod.

Sitting MLA of Perumbavoor in Kochi Eldhose Kunnappillil has been denied the seat as a sexual assault case against him is pending before the court and is scheduled to be heard by the court this month. Local leader Manoj Moothedan will contest from Perumbavoor.

Kunnappillil told reporters that although he was unhappy about being denied the seat, he would continue to work for the party.
