Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s banner at Hanuman Jayanti procession creates ripples in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A gangster picture Lawrence Bishnoi created a ruckus during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Hyderabad on Thursday. A group of youths carried a placard displaying an image of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on one side and a photograph of Bishnoi on the other, emblazoned with the slogan “Aap Ka Baap Aa Raha Hai” (Your father is coming).

This was not the first such incident. Last year, a young man was seen carrying a picture of Bishnoi at the holy Anjanadri hill in Karnataka. Bishnoi is currently in jail facing charges in several high-profile criminal cases, including alleged links to the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, threats to actor Salman Khan and alleged involvement in the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.

The 13 kilometer long Veer Hanuman Jayanti procession began with much colour, starting from Ram Mandir Gowliguda around noon. One of the biggest calendar events of Hyderabad, it attracts thousands of devotees who participate with fervor and enthusiasm.

A grand procession from Karmanghat will join the main procession at Andhra Bank, with several branch processions joining along the route. By evening, the march will culminate in a public meeting at Tadbund, Secunderabad. About 3,000 police officers have been deployed on bandobast duty.
