Turn back the clock
with Resident Evil Requiem AND Pokemon Pokopia Both are sold in terms of physical copies I wonder if there might still be a way to reverse the trend towards digital only? There’s a lot of talk about Gen Z going retro for physical media like CDs and DVDs. I’ve never heard the game mentioned, but I would have thought the same logic applies there.
Part of the reason behind the trend (rather than the other way around) is that they’ve realized that it’s actually fun to own things, put them on the shelves, and know they can’t be taken away. None of this applies to digital games, so my hope is that we’ll see digital sales growth start to slow and hopefully turn around.
If vinyl can be brought back – and I listen to both audio tapes and VHS – then video games absolutely must. There is much more to be gained by owning the games you pay for.

Your sequel is in another decade
or Fallout 3 Remaster that’s all well and good, but now it’s been over 10 years since the last mainline Fallout game and we have absolutely no idea when Fallout 5 will be released. After The Elder Scrolls 6 could mean 2033 or later. Until then, we may not need a video game to experience a post-apocalyptic wasteland!

If I were Microsoft I’d hand the whole franchise to Obsidian, who made New Vegas. Bethesda has been in the series for so long and they have done absolutely nothing with it. They’ve had all the time and money needed to bring in more people and work on two games at once, but that doesn’t seem to have even been a thought.
I think it’s because Todd Howard wants to do everything himself, but, I’ll be honest, if he doesn’t work on the next Fallout 5 it would be better news than one coming out tomorrow.
FOCUSING
Super Pokopia Odyssey
I see that Pokémon Pokopia has sold over 2.2 million copies in four days, which puts it ahead of the pace set by Super Mario Odyssey… which went on to sell over 30 million. So happy to see, not just because it’s a great game, but because it’s a bit of a risk that has paid off.
You can put the Pokemon name on anything and it will sell something at least, but they obviously put a lot of care into it, more than the main games it seems to me. We all know GC hates Dynasty Warriors games, so they get the bonus of removing Omega Force while busy with Pokopia.
I can’t wait to play it even more and there already seems to be a lot of plans for post-launch support.

Short rivalry
It’s always funny Compare Nintendo’s fortunes to Sega’s. They’ve been partners now for far longer than they’ve ever been rivals, but there’s no way Sega is in the same league as Nintendo now, if they ever were.
I think the reason why Nintendo is reaping the benefits of good reviews and Sega isn’t is that Sega’s brands are just too old and tarnished. After all these years, no one expects a Sonic game to be good, and Shinobi might be a good game, but no one remembers or cares about the franchise.
On the other hand, Metaphor: ReFantasia it’s a weird game, with a weird name and concept, that basically looks like a PlayStation 2 game. I’ve played it and enjoyed it, but I’m honestly surprised it did as well as it did.
Sega left it too late to revive their Mega Drive era games and now most gamers don’t even know what they are. Whereas with Nintendo it’s the opposite and Pokémon is a household name which only boosts the sales of an already good game.

The first console
Is Microsoft’s proposed combination of PC and console likely to change Sony’s policy of putting console-exclusive games on PC, or is it something that has already changed?
As an aside they have just finished and really enjoyed it The howl of death. Great game – thanks for pointing it out.

GC: We’ll probably never know for sure, because Sony hasn’t publicly commented on any of its policies in years. The last suggestion is that Sony is more concerned about Valve’s Steam Machine than the Helix Project.
Shut up for now
The build up to a new console launch is always tiring in terms of all the nonsense companies talk about. I can’t wait for the tech demos that look nothing like any game ever made. Anyone remember that one for the PlayStation 5, with Tomb Raider looking like a woman and the promise that SSDs would change the way games were designed (spoiler: they didn’t)?
As usual, Microsoft just can’t shut up and let its product do the talking. They’re still going on like it’s a big deal and it’s just getting sad. They could have just been the next EA and that would have been very important to them, but now we have to put up with Xbox One Part 3.
It must be humiliating for them that Sony doesn’t care what they think, they’re only concerned about Steam Machine, even though it failed once and there’s no guarantee that Valve can make it a hit at all.
And yet still Sony apparently thinks it has a better chance of that happening than Xbox derailing their plans. And yet, despite all that I think going for a premium PC is actually a good idea for Microsoft. It’s not the same as the PlayStation, and it looks like it’s going to be more expensive/more powerful than the Steam Machine.
At least that’s a clear point of difference, so they might have some luck with it, even if it’s for a niche audience. But for pity’s sake, just stop with the hype until you have something to show, by which I mean a game line, a price, and a release date.

Monster reception
Are you planning to review Monster Hunter Stories 3? I’ve really enjoyed the last two and the third one looks like a development in an already very enjoyable series.
I have the game pre-ordered and while I don’t always agree with your comments, I’m curious about your opinion on this spin-off series.

GC: Yes, we will have a review this week.

Keep the tiles spinning
Nice to see Resident Evil Requiem doing so well and can’t wait to play it. I’m free these days and with a significant load anyway, I can wait for the sales. You still haven’t finished the Resident Evil 4 remake.
However, as a fan of the series, I’m surprised that Capcom and the players (looking at the GC cards page) are so unimaginative of where to take these now beloved characters and the absurd zombie conspiracy story they’ve cooked up over the years. On the internet all you hear is talk about the next remake or DLC. However, with such a rich tapestry to draw from, they can easily create new spin-offs and semi-sequels for a while yet.
I mean, why tie yourself to remaking older entries? With the perfect modern RE engine, simply reuse assets from previous modern games to make side entries with new stories and more regularity. Send Jill Valentine to Latin America to fight an outbreak and meet a new group of eccentric scientists for a brand new direct sequel to Resident Evil 3.
Give Leo and Chris a new game destroying suspicious virus labs in established former Soviet states, now they’re special forces brothers, etc. Maybe call it Resident Evil Revelations 3. I guess you’d run the risk of it becoming the video game version of those supposedly bad CGI movies that no one watches… but I’ve taken Caproll to task before trusting a few games. stagnant.
They don’t need to go through the mill to make Resident Evil 5 or 6 work in the modern era, just forget them.
Marc
GC: Resident Evil spin-offs have a very mixed history, while almost all of the remakes have been excellent; so it’s not hard to see why fans might prefer one over the other. That said, we’d love to see Revelations 3 happen.

or new game from the creator of Wordle? I wish you hadn’t told me that, because now I’m going to do my best to pretend I didn’t know so I don’t waste my entire morning on it.

I wonder why February has become such a big month for new releases. I think it’s because it’s still dark in the evening, but that’s how it is almost all of March. It seems strange to go from busy to almost nothing.
