Finland’s defense forces have launched an investigation after the drones entered Finnish territory on Sunday, in what authorities described as a possible territorial violation.
“We are taking the matter seriously and the security authorities have reacted immediately. said Finnish Prime Minister, Petri Orpo.
Several small, low-flying objects were detected over a maritime area and in southeastern Finland on Sunday morning, the defense ministry said. said in a statement. It was not immediately clear where the drones originated.
One drone fell north of Kouvola, while another went down east of the city, police said they were investigating. The Finnish Air Force conducts an identification mission with an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet.
Defense Minister, Antti Häkkänen said in X that the investigation of the events is ongoing and further information will be provided after verification.
The Finnish Air Force identified at least one of the drones as Ukrainian, according to YLE.
