Teachers must also report any observations related to student welfare – no matter how minor they may seem – to the designated student welfare officer within 24 hours and implement absence protocols without waiting for a reminder.
The code prohibits communication with parents outside of official business hours regarding routine academic matters. It also prevents the delivery of more than three consecutive hours of live instruction without a break and requires teachers to escalate any workload concerns to their direct supervisor through approved school channels. In addition, teachers are encouraged to use the support services for mental and physical well-being provided by the school and ADEK
Attendance, Absence and Parent Communication Guidelines
ADEK has also mandated that schools improve communication with parents through a single channel on a regular weekly basis. Schools must send the daily timetables in advance, no later than 20:00 and clearly define the communication hours. These measures are accompanied by detailed guidelines outlining parental responsibilities and procedures for managing student absences to ensure discipline within the distance learning system.
The department clarified that any academic inquiries should be directed to a designated contact — either the teacher or the scene coordinator — with a required response time of one school day. A separate communication channel should be set aside for issues related to student safety and welfare, with similar response times during business hours. Any technical changes or updates to learning platforms must be communicated clearly and in plain language at least 24 hours before implementation.
Parents are expected to ensure that students attend classes on time and provide a quiet and appropriate learning environment. They are also required to promptly respond to any school communication within 24 hours. The level of parental involvement should vary based on the age of the student, with greater support expected in the early years and reduced supervision as students progress academically.
What schools are not allowed to ask of parents
ADEK stressed that schools do not dare to ask parents for explanations of lessons or academic content, as this responsibility is entirely the school’s. Parents are also not required to monitor students during lessons, except in the case of younger children for safety reasons.
Communication with parents regarding routine academic matters is limited to between 3.30pm and 8.00pm and schools should only use one communication channel per family to avoid confusion. Parents should not be responsible for tracking student absences until the school has implemented its own procedures.
The department further clarified that the roles of parents differ according to the educational stage and stressed that schools have the primary responsibility for monitoring student attendance. Parents should only be contacted after internal procedures have been completed, except in emergency cases.
