Almost three-quarters of Hong Kong students have taken their first choice secondary school, while more than nine in 10 students have secured one of their first three options, according to education authorities.

A total of 48,545 Primary Six pupils participated in the Secondary School Place Allocation System (SSPA) for the 2026-2027 school year, the Education Bureau (EDB) said on Monday.
According to the central division, 91 percent of students received one of their top three choices, while 74 percent were admitted to their first choice, EDB said, adding that both figures were in line with last year.
Meanwhile, 68 per cent of students secured their first choice in the vacancies, which admit students based on academic performance and interviews.
The satisfaction rate for this year was 84 per cent, based on the number of students who were given a discretionary seat and those who received their first choice through central allocation.
Including students who were assigned a school in their top three choices, the satisfaction rate reached 95 percent.
EDB is set to release the SSPA results on Tuesday.
The bureau said Primary Six students should return to their primary school on Tuesday to collect their allocation and admission slips and register at their designated secondary schools on Thursday or Friday.
