Dubai: Residents along the east coast of the United Arab Emirates woke up to refreshing showers on Friday as rain lashed parts of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, bringing cooler conditions and misty mountain views despite forecasts for generally good weather.
Light to occasionally moderate rain fell over areas near the Hajar Mountains, creating autumn-like scenes along the eastern coastline as low clouds and cooler temperatures replaced the usual summer heat.

The rain came even as the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) had forecast mostly clear skies across the UAE, with low clouds expected over the east coast and higher temperatures inland.
The rainfall was linked to the seasonal development of Al Marawih convective clouds over the Hajar Mountains, a recurring summer weather pattern driven by moist air moving inland from the Sea of Oman.
As moist air is pushed up from the mountains, it cools and forms high cumulonimbus clouds capable of producing thunderstorms and localized rainfall.
Al Marawih clouds are expected to activate over the Hajjer range and areas near the border during the afternoon, with the potential for isolated thundershowers.
The NCM said winds will remain light to moderate, becoming fresh at times, while seas in both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are expected to remain light.
