KOCHI: The Additional Judicial Magistrate Court, Ernakulam, has issued arrest warrants against Congress MLA Tony Chammany, Kochi Mayor VK Mini Mol and KPCC secretary Thampi Subramaniam in connection with a case registered for a protest held against the state government in 2025.
The case involves allegations of unlawful assembly, unauthorized assembly and obstruction of the road during the march. The warrants were issued after the accused allegedly failed to appear before the court.
KPCK secretary Thampi Subramaniam claimed that neither he nor the other accused had received a court summons.
“The case has been registered in connection with the 2025 march against the government. We have not been sent any summons. The police may have left notices in an office, but the rules require that the summons be sent and acknowledged personally. We have not received any such communication,” he said.
Chairperson VK Mini Mol said she was informed of the arrest warrant only on Sunday morning.
“This is a case registered by the police in connection with a protest. I had not received any communication from the police. I learned about the arrest warrant only this morning and then it was forwarded to me. I have entrusted this matter to my lawyer, who will move the court tomorrow,” she said.
MLA Tony Chammany said the order would be withdrawn through legal proceedings.
“The order was issued because we could not appear before the court. We have already filed a petition to withdraw the order and will appear before the court. This may be a case in which we had appeared earlier. If someone misses a certain hearing, the court can issue an order. We will return it as soon as possible,” he said.
The matter has been posted for further proceedings on 22 July 2026.
