In a shocking incident on the national highway in Karnataka Tumakuru, a man was charred to death after the car he was traveling in exploded on Saturday.
The police suspect that the deceased identified as Nagendra (30) may have used a bomb or molotov cocktail to set the car on fire near Kallambella in Sira Taluk.
The man allegedly stabbed a woman in the head inside the car, but she managed to get out of the vehicle before the suspected bomb was detonated.
The driver of the car also jumped out of the car to save the woman just before the explosion took place.
According to the police, Nagendra had booked the car from Siddapura near Jayanagar in Bengaluru and allegedly forced the woman into the vehicle.
Addressing the media in Tumakuru, District Superintendent of Police Ashok KV said that the police received information that a vehicle parked on the side of the highway had caught fire following which a team immediately reached the spot.
They found the driver and a woman, identified as Ramya, outside the car that caught fire.
After the initial investigation, the police learned that there had been an explosion and that there was a body inside the vehicle.
The driver and the woman informed us that the person inside had used an explosive, which resulted in the blast, Ashok said.
“The preliminary information we have is that a man named Nagendra allegedly forcibly abducted a woman named Ramya from within the limits of Siddapura police station in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar area. Based on that information, we have identified the individuals involved,” he added.
He added that during the investigation it will be determined how the explosion happened and what caused it.
