Man kills wife on suspicion of affair, throws body in well near Sirumugai


“The accused allegedly strangled his wife to death after she allegedly refused to end the relationship. During investigation, he told the police that he had earlier brought her from Bihar to Tiruchy following similar suspicions. After the murder, he packed the body in a plastic bag and dumped it in an unused well on the mill premises, where he later returned to the police office on June 10.” said.

The crime came to light on June 17 when the site supervisor noticed a foul smell coming from the well and notified the police. “Work was being done on the construction site to renovate the facility into a wedding hall. The suspect believed that the body would go unnoticed in the abandoned well. However, the supervisor detected the stench and notified us.

With the help of fire and rescue service personnel, the body was recovered and sent to the government hospital in Mettupalayam for post-mortem examination,” the police said.

The police formed three special teams to trace the accused and nabbed him at Kurukilipalayam near Sirumugai. During the interrogation, he admitted the crime. Police said he was planning to revisit the crime scene to retrieve the scarf used in the murder, which had been left in the well with the body.
