New Delhi: Star Dough Virat Kohli is progressing well in his recovery from the right hamstring injury sustained during the IPL and will report to the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) on June 22 for re-evaluation and further planning.
It is learned that a member of the CoE’s sports science team visited the UK to assess Kohli’s fitness before giving him a rehabilitation programme. Kohli resides in London with his family.
He had suffered a hamstring strain during the IPL final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
“Virat Kohli is progressing well following the right hamstring injury sustained in the IPL. He was assessed by the CoE team in London and given the program to continue in the initial phase of rehabilitation and he will report to the CoE on June 22, 2026 for re-evaluation, further planning and subsequent clearance,” said the sports management team and sports management team’s update sent to the team management committee of fitness science.
“Virat will get his fitness clearance after a fitness test on Monday in Bengaluru. Before that he will do a promotional event in Delhi on Sunday,” said a BCCI source privy to the developments. PTI.
Incidentally in 2025, when the Indian Test team was in London, members of the support staff had appreciated his ability as he had already announced his retirement from the red-ball format by then.
Pandya not to travel to England- Meanwhile, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has not recovered from the quadriceps strain suffered ahead of the ODI series in Afghanistan. He is unable to complete his full quota of overs and has been ruled out of the England ODI series.
Pandya wants more time before he returns to full fitness.
“Hardik Pandya has not been able to achieve the required amount of bowling volume and conditioning required for an ODI format and will require more time to regain full fitness for an ODI,” a source said.
All other players who are in the selection race are fit.
The ODI squad will be announced once the selectors get the final update on Kohli’s availability.
