of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the first seat allotment for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other participating institutions.
Candidates who have completed registration and saved their choices can now check their possible allotment on JoSAA official website.
Students should note that the mock allotment is not the final allotment of seats. Instead, it aims to help candidates understand how their current choices might translate to a seat based on their rank and preferences, allowing them to make changes before the polling deadline.
What is the simulation partition?
Mock allotment is a test allotment exercise conducted before the actual counseling rounds begin.
Based on the choices filled by the candidates and their ranks in JEE Main or JEE Advanced, the system generates a preliminary seat allotment. This gives students an opportunity to assess their chances and revise their preference ranking if necessary.
JoSAA is conducting two mock allocations this year. The first is now published, while the second mock split is scheduled for June 10.
How to check mock partition
Candidates can check their allotment by following these steps:
-
Visit the official website, josaa.nic.in.
-
Login using JEE Main Application Number and Password.
-
Click on the seat allocation link.
-
Look at the particular institute and program.
-
Download and save the details for future reference.
What should candidates do now?
Students are advised to carefully review the allocation and compare it with their preferences.
If they are satisfied with the given place, they can choose to keep the current order of preferences. However, they can still make changes after considering the second mock split.
Those unhappy with their seat can rearrange their preferences, add additional options or remove choices they no longer care about before the deadline.
Experts generally advise candidates not to make drastic changes based only on the first mock allotment and wait for the second mock before finalizing their choices.

Candidates are advised to check the JoSAA official website regularly for updates and review their choices carefully before the final closing date.
