AINRC, BJP finalize seat allocation for Puducherry Assembly polls


Puduchery: AINRC in power and BJPAIADMK The combine reached an agreement on Friday for the Assembly elections in the territory of the union, where AINRC will compete with 16 mandates.

Puducherry Chief Minister and AINRC chief N Rangasamy held talks with BJP leader and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at a private hotel here. Therefore, the BJP will contest the remaining 14 seats.

The BJP, from its kitty, has allotted two seats to AIADMK and Lakshia Jananayaga Katchi (LJK) out of the 14 seats under the deal, AINRC sources said.

Although Rangasamy maintained throughout that the Jose Charles Matin-led LJK should not be accommodated in the AINRC-led NDA, the talks with the central minister ended in the Prime Minister agreeing to include the LJK in the front.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, AINRC contested 16 seats and won 10. BJP contested 9 seats and won 6. AIADMK contested five and drew one blank.

The single-phase voting for 30 mandates in the territory of the union is scheduled for April 9.
