The Conservatives are calling on the government to split the bill on police search powers

The bill is divided into two parts. The first proposes that police and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) would be able to go to telecommunications companies and ask whether, yes or no, an individual is a customer before having to obtain a warrant for more information. It then establishes a new path for authorities to obtain customer information from companies with the appropriate warrant.
