Red Letter Day
I can’t say I’m surprised by the negative Crimson Desert comments. Although I guess I should call them “mixed”, which seems to be what we’re supposed to say when all the reliable sites score it and the ones you’ve never heard of give it a 10/9.

The graphics look good and I can’t pretend I wasn’t swayed by them when watching the trailers, but I’m very suspicious of any game that claims to be the next big thing and is made by a developer with very little experience in the genre.

When you know they’ve only ever made one MMO before the whole game looks exactly what you’d expect from it. Its Metacritic score is lower than some people seem to have expected, so I think it’s clear that it’s not a great game, but from what I’ve read the score isn’t low enough.

I also have a really bad feeling about the console versions. The fact that there is not a single review of PlayStation 5 version is giving me Cyberpunk 2077 vibes and it won’t be a pretty sight.

Not terrible
Can someone explain to me why anyone thought Crimson Desert would be amazing? I’m going to assume it was bullshit beaten up by the broadcasters and to YouTubesince as I write this it is doing very well vibrationbut why? Surely they haven’t run out of things to talk about or were they just promoting the company?

It might seem innocuous, but they are making people pay £50+ for a game that doesn’t look like it’s any good. And we haven’t even seen what it looks like running on console, so I can’t wait for that apparent disaster to be revealed.

Of course, the second phase will be the people who were tricked into buying it by pretending to everyone that it’s actually really good or ‘not so bad’. I don’t know about you, I look for a little more than that for my entertainment.

Losing the crown
Interesting that GTA 6 had broken its trailer record with what I would have thought was a relatively ordinary new Marvel movie. I’m sure it will do well, but it won’t do as much as the last one Spider-Man movie (because it was a crossover) and I doubt it will be a cultural moment like Avengers: Endgame or something like The Force Awakens. GTA 6 is absolutely on par with that kind of stuff though, so I’m surprised it’s not number one yet.

I guess population growth alone means the number always goes up, but with cinema attendance going down… it’s not something I’d bet on. I won’t say that something as weird as GTA 6 won’t do well, but this is the first sign we’ve had that it has its limits. But to be fair, Take-Two’s surprisingly sensitive boss seems to understand this.

Beyond the monsters
He was playing Pokemon Pokopia since launch. Well, that game is compulsive, isn’t it?

Anyway, it got me thinking, when is a pocket monster not a pocket monster and just an animal? When a bird can fly and run fast, isn’t it just a bird? There’s no room for you in my pocket, pigeon! And if a squirrel doesn’t have a glowing tail or the ability to bend spoons with its mind, then isn’t it just a furry rodent?! Kicked off the team ya furry rat!

Is there a noticeable difference, or was Ash just going around enslaving wildlife for 25 years?
big bent boy
Currently playing: Pokopia and thank you for being here!, I’m laughing as I mow the park with daisies because I knew what was coming… I love you… I love you… I love you…. ha ha ha! We expect more.

GC: Pokemon are completely intelligent, unlike ordinary animals. No more so than in Pokopia, where they communicate with each other as a human and perform complex tasks.

BSAA dispatch
I hope Leon and Ada hook up, I think that would be cool. I think apart from Barry Burton none of the other characters have been confirmed to have a partner of any kind? i want Resident Evil and I would very much support a game that wasn’t a survival horror. Something that was more comedic, sure, but also something more dramatic, with time for everyone to sit down and talk.

I don’t even know if half of these people have met each other. Does Leon know Jill? Does Claire know someone who isn’t Chris? Why has Sheva not returned and do they keep in touch?

I’m imagining some kind of visual novel/point ‘n’ click thing. Maybe something like Sendingwhere the action is happening, but it’s all about how the people are behind the scenes, I think that would be a great idea.

end
Very sad to hear about the death of Red Storm Entertainment. I loved the early Rainbow Six games when they were mostly tactical games, with action only a minor aspect. Those days are obviously long gone, but so is the entire franchise. Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are both dead, and so is all the experimental stuff like EndWar and HAWX

Rainbow Six itself is basically dead, with Siege being all that’s left of it and having nothing in common with the older games. The only other thing is The Division, which I would have sworn was dead too, but apparently there’s a third game on the way, but either way it’s just another live service game.
As an adult, I have to admit that I look at games in a different light.

They’re very right-wing (as was Tom Clancy, although he wasn’t mad about it) and the whole gun fetish is kind of unpopular in the current era. That being said, it’s completely different from what Ubisoft has been up to before, and in that sense I’m not that sad to see it all end.

Let’s face it, if they were to bring these franchises back, it would be in name only, like Ghost Recon Wildlandsso what’s the point? I wouldn’t shut down Red Storm, but I would have had them do something that was a little more politically nuanced and not so much trying to appeal only to Americans.

I don’t have much faith that Ubisoft can pull it off in the next few years, but if they do, I hope they can bring back some of what made them interesting in the early 2000s. Military games are good, but they need to make them more than just shooting galleries. They need a more European perspective, not an American one.

Petition for a petition
Can confirm it boost mode on Switch 2 it’s really good. It’s the only thing that put me off Pokémon Pokopia (for a while) and while it’s a shame not all games are affected equally, I think it’s a good start.

I would definitely sign the petition for a Switch 2 edition of Astral Chain, but I realize that’s never going to happen. I would love to hear about a sequel though, because I thought the original did better than expected. PlatinumGames looked like they were in trouble for a while there, but Ninja Gaiden 4 was well reviewed so hopefully they still have juice.

Free graphics
I found Images with 5 DLSS revealed the other day a bit pushing it to be honest.

While clearly much better in the amount of detail over the original images, I felt they were all too bright and had that artificial, unnatural feel you see with a lot of AI.

Although not HE, the first thing that came to mind was horrible, weird, embarrassed Halo: Combat Evolved remaster. I’ve played the game a few times since then and I always use the original graphics, just at a higher resolution, as I think they look much better and more atmospheric than the newer technically better, more detailed, retina graphics.

I’m sure DLSS 5 and its implementation will improve and look more natural. It will probably be useful for many smaller developers to punch their weight in the graphics department.

I really like that Take-Two guy, but GTA 5 is generally considered the highest grossing entertainment product ever, with around $10 billion in revenue. He has slightly more resources at his disposal than almost everyone else.

GC: That doesn’t seem like a good reason to put up with artificial intelligence. Many lower budget and indie titles are already visually impressive, the idea of losing that in favor of a generic AI look is a terrifying thought.

Inbox-ka too
Why do you want Sony? change the PlayStation Network name? PSN is a perfectly good acronym and unlike most Xbox names it means what it is. I’ll put it another way: I’m jealous of how many millions of dollars a marketing consultant paid to change it to PlayStation Online, or whatever it is.
Cinderella 9

I’m also very eager to know what Persona 6 is like. I’d be going through the roof right now, annoyed at the lack of news, but I remember it being just like that waiting for Persona 5. That was worth it, so hopefully this one will be too.
