All or nothing
So, Tuesday night it is The biggest trend of the yearand I really hope it’s something to get excited about and not just 40 minutes Wolverine and then whatever the third party advertises Sony convinced people to pay.
That could totally be the case, and I’m prepared for it, but I’m going to be more optimistic and say that Sony realizes that people aren’t happening and is planning big announcements. Only I’m not sure a God Of War spin-off starring Kratos’ dead wife and a rebranded Fairgame$ is going to cut it.
Here’s hoping it’s a good one and we get at least a few things that haven’t been revealed or rumored and are a complete surprise. I have no idea if it will, but that’s what I look for when it comes to any showcase.

Premium Bond
Add me to the list of people who are very impressed 007 First Light. I wasn’t going to get it until I saw the reviews and even then I didn’t expect it to be that good, but it has completely exceeded my expectations.

All things Bond are handled perfectly, to an extent I wouldn’t have thought possible, with a really fun lead, plenty of clichés that aren’t overdone, and Bond is actually still a womanizer – just not in a creepy way. He uses devices but they are not the only way out of a situation and even driving is good.
But you can still ignore all that because it’s a great third-person action game with really cool melee combat and gun action that I really wasn’t expecting. And then all the stealth stuff and some really fun boss battles and lots of variety. I think every game is doomed to lose to GTA 6 this year, awards wise, but this is easily my game of the year so far.

Ally-oops
I’m really surprised that Xbox is still moving forward with ROG Ally… which, whatever the stupid name is, I’m not looking for. I can only imagine the number of owners must be in the dozens by now, so what’s the point?
that new it’s clearly going to be a grand or more and that’s crazy. So you can sit there with one hand, wearing AR goggles to use it properly?
I’m afraid this just adds to the theory that consoles are only being made for the rich now. There’s no way the Xbox handheld was made with the mass market in mind, and I agree that Project Helix will probably be the same.

Will be out when it’s done
Am I the only one who hates early access? I saw Subnautica 2 review and I got really excited, as I didn’t know it was coming out, but then I found out that it was only for the early access version, and the game won’t be out until next year or later.
As far as I’m concerned, you release a game when it’s over and not a moment earlier. I really don’t understand why these multi-million dollar games need early access anyway. If you’re a small indie developer, then sure, maybe you don’t know how a game will be received, but for a big company it’s already been tested to death.
They are just trying to get people’s money early. They don’t pay a builder and then say they’ll do a little, see how you like it and then come back in two years. Well, okay… maybe that was a bad example!

Smoke and mirrors
I don’t understand this ‘controversy’ to have PlayStation or Switch logos during the Xbox showcase. If some fans have their heads in the sand so deep that they can’t see that the Xbox is dead as a console with exclusives, then they need a wake-up call.
I get it, it’s hard to accept that the party is over, but for Microsoft to join them and pretend that the good times can return is just cruel. To give them the benefit of the doubt, they can try to convince themselves too, but there’s no world where Xbox goes back to having exclusives for anything more than indie gamesand even then probably not much will happen.
The new Xbox boss is trying to get the fans on her side, and I respect the hustle, but not only has she not done anything yet, she hasn’t even promised to do anything yet, that we can hold her to account for. It’s all just agricultural aura and it’s kind of gross.

Three hardware assumptions
My guess as to what is happening with the next generation is that PlayStation 6 it will be postponed until at least 2028. I don’t think it will be cancelled, because PlayStation 5 it’s a good money maker for sony, but i think they’ll know to take it out now and charge £800, or whatever, because it’s not a good idea.
Better to wait until the memory crunch is over and price it reasonably since everything is going well at the moment and no one is in a rush for a PlayStation 6 anyway.
The only problem is how do you know the memory crunch will end? Even if they build as many AI data centers as they want, once they’re built, they’ll just decide that the first ones need to be upgraded and we’ll be back in a circle.
As for the Xbox, I think they will be pushed a lot less by the price, as they already seem to be aiming it at die hard fans only. That means they’ll buy it anyway, but it also means it doesn’t really matter because it wasn’t a contender in the first place.
For Nintendo, who always seem to be left out of these kinds of considerations, I think their best bet is to fast track the Switch 2 Lite. Knowing Nintendo, they’re going to release it later than the original Switch, but in theory releasing it now makes more sense because it’s cheaper and probably cheaper to make for Nintendo as well.

The government always steps in
So much so that I would be happy if they banned Roblox completely, I guess communication ban for children it is very important. But I have absolutely no faith that this government will do that. There will just be a lot of talking and investigating and then they will decide that doing nothing is actually much easier for them.
I’m not political, it would be the same to whoever was inside. Politicians never have a clue when it comes to technology and always make the wrong decision. Doubly so when it comes to gaming.

Split decision
Anyone else wondering what the Xbox Series S version of GTA 6 will be like? I don’t have an S, but like, after Baldur’s Gate 3 hoo-hacan’t help but wonder how it will play out. Or even, how it will look and work.
Speaking of the S Series, I understand the original premise, being affordable enough that PlayStation 5 users would get one and that would be the thin end of the attractive PlayStation user wedge, yada yada yada. That was an interesting idea! It seems to have been a failed idea.
I kind of hoped that a less powerful second console would have been dead from day one – just for the extra developer workload – but it looks like the PlayStation 6 will have a handheld version just as powerful as a PlayStation 5.
Doesn’t it divide the audience? I’m no economist, but this can’t be wise, it makes it harder for people to see the benefits and improvement of improvement. Unexpectedly, PlayStation is emailing PlayStation 4 owners to upgrade.
Maybe I’m just a bored millennial and feel that this generation and the next are somehow being held back by a lowest common denominator. I long for a time of amazing generational leaps, like the GameCube on the Xbox 360.
That’s probably the answer here.

GC: We weren’t going to take anything for granted with the PlayStation handheld until Sony announced it. And that’s assuming it hasn’t been canceled due to a memory crunch.

Cautious optimist about Rayman Legends remake. It doesn’t need one, but if it gets more people playing the game, then all the better, because it’s one of my favorites.

Seeing some rumors about a new Marvel Vs. Capcom for one of this week’s showcases. Don’t believe a word, but I still want to believe!
