Potential candidates
thus Sony moving his non-E3 State of the game again one week until Junejust a few days after deciding not to deploy it single player games on pc. I’ll take that as a positive sign, personally.
I’m sure Wolverine will be the focus, but I also expect to see Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, something related to God Of War and maybe the Marvel fighting game. Surely there has to be something new and that’s what I’m most excited about.
Now that Bluepoint is gone, we kind of lost our prime candidate for a developer who hasn’t done anything for a while, but there’s always the Days Gone team and the Astro Boy group. I’m just hoping we get some kind of IP, but if I’m honest, I think the most likely reveal is for a new Uncharted.
I’m not against the idea, but I think Naughty Dog was probably right to walk away when they did, and that it will be very difficult to do anything new with the concept.

Calm Megaton
This fad for boring game notifications is really bothering me. GC was one of the first to point it out, with Sony being one of the worst for it, but now everyone seems to think that just tweeting is all you need to do to announce a game. How far we have come E3.
That was enough megaton notice Warhorse hadwith a new Kingdom Come game and a huge, open world Lord of the Rings game and… I felt absolutely nothing I learned about it. Because I was told and shown absolutely nothing and the developer couldn’t be bothered to make it look exciting.
I’m particularly interested to see if the Lord of the Rings game covers the events of the books/movies or if it will take place in a different era of Middle Earth. I don’t mind either, as long as it’s good, which I’d expect a lot from Warhorse. Just please give us a trailer, or something, to link to next time.

Three-pronged war
So now we have all three console makers lined up for shows this summer, even if Nintendo A direct one is still a rumour. Gaming always benefits when Sony, Microsoftand Nintendo are competing, and since all three are vulnerable, in different ways, at the moment, I find it very encouraging.
I won’t try to guess exactly what they’ll show, in terms of anything brand new, but I would have thought that everyone would know that they should make an effort this year. That means a lot of chatter about who ‘won’ E3 or non-E3 or whatever we’re calling it now, which is great for who comes out on top.
I think this is a good thing. If Sony in particular realizes that they can end up looking worse than both, then I think that’s the best way to motivate them to make an effort.

Perfect arcade
What an interesting letter from Tim Keeling, about the need to overhaul coin-op arcade games and what a cool hobby to have. As for the video game cabinets, I would have assumed they were tough simply because any object left in the hands of the public would automatically receive harsh treatment. Just imagine all those pressed joysticks and those frustrated buttons.
Back in the arcade days, I vaguely remember seeing someone play a cabinet with two ping pong balls attached to their palm so they could work the buttons faster.
Good to hear Tim has a protective cabinet. of Star Wars the game, especially the cockpit version, was really great, but Defender had everything for me. The game was exciting to play and offered eye-catching visuals, plus nothing else looked like it. That cabinet looked bad.
My least favorite game in the arcade was probably Dragon’s Lair, which was expensive to play and just a quick series of events. There were better Laserdisc arcade games. I remember really enjoying the Mach 3 cabinet.
Consoles are neat and convenient, but it must be great to have a few full-sized arcade cabinets in your home. Although it looks like the cars need a lot of maintenance.

Out of time
I don’t believe for a second that we’ll ever see one new Deus Ex or TimeSplitters games. Who will do them for a start, given what Embracer has already done to those developers? And when will they come out? A good game takes at least five years to make these days, and a new Deus Ex would definitely need that and more.
So this would be a next-gen game? I’ll be honest, I don’t see Embracer lasting that long unless they decide to make it AI or some crap. I’m just waiting for the first company to try this, and I actually encourage it, because I hope it puts everyone off so much that we don’t have to live in fear anymore, and they can stop getting fired every five minutes.

Quickly forgotten
Now Forza Horizon 6 is on the market Game Pass I’ve been running and enjoying it much more than Forza Horizon 5. I made it to the first showcase and it immediately made up for the lackluster offerings from its predecessor.
On the eve of Forza’s release, I was discussing with a few other arcade racers and the dwindling options.
Split/Second: Velocity was fondly remembered, despite the stupidity of the release dates with Blur ruining the chances of both.
Fortunately, Microsoft’s approach to backwards compatibility meant that I could dig out my copy of Split/Second at the weekend and do just fine.
Still holds up pleasantly well. The graphics are still pretty good, although I’m less keen on that yellow glow that reminds me of the first season of 24 for some reason.
The central body of causing various explosions and catastrophes around the tracks, like a scene in an action movie, remains a pleasure. The risk/reward of immediately tripping an opponent or saving up for a big triple charge to grab multiple runners or dramatically change course is great.
There are some awesome rubber bands though, and a track map would help too, but overall I think it would be popular if there was a re-release, even without a revamp/revamp.
However, unfortunately, Disney it was dropped from making games shortly after it came out and we’re unlikely to see a sequel. But I’d like to see another developer do something similar, maybe we could get a much needed new Burnout and include the spectacular chaos on top of Split/Second.

Continuation in the studio
For anyone who, like me, was a little disappointed sarosat least in terms of anything that wasn’t the game, Returnal’s director has started his own company. I think him leaving was the reason why Saros didn’t hit the same spot in many ways.
Not sure from their announcement what kind of budget their first game will get, but if it’s relatively low, we could be something of them sooner rather than later.

Whale bait
I am very suspicious of Nex Playground – Sounds like a product designed to convince Microsoft or some other big tech player to buy the company and give the owner a job and some stock options, before he leaves to start a new company so they can sell it to a big hitter so they can get a job…
From reading Cory Doctorow’s book, Ens***tification (don’t know if you can print it), earlier this year it seems like the entire modern tech industry is built on that scroll.
I can’t put my finger on why I doubt them so much. Maybe the fact that you have to subscribe if you want more than five games and you can’t just buy them. But so many things are subscription-based now that it should just be a one-time purchase, so there should be more red flags there for me.
Mark my words though: Microsoft will buy that technology soon, they’ll shut down the service, and anyone who shelled out hundreds of hard-earned coins will end up with an expensive plastic box.
It will probably be used for Kinect 2.0 on Xbox HAL.

If Fable looks as good and plays as well as Forza Horizon 6, we’re in for a real treat.

GC: There will surely be a better fight.
I wonder if From’s next match will end up being another Amored Core. It doesn’t seem too long since the last one, but it seems more believable than having a large-scale game like Elden Ring and The Duskbloods going at the same time.
