A Hong Kong lawmaker has been fined HK$2,000 and banned from driving for a month after he was filmed driving on the wrong side of a road in Wan Chai in January.

Judy Chan, a New People’s Party lawmaker, appeared in the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on Monday. She pleaded guilty to one count of reckless driving.
Magistrate David Ko said Chan’s offense was “premeditated” and that the duration of her offense was not short.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Chan said she regretted her actions and had taken public transport instead of driving.
“Since the incident happened, I have stopped driving. I also promised (the magistrate) that I will not offend again,” she told reporters in Cantonese.
Cani it was filmed coming down wrong side of Jaffe Road in Wan Chai in late January, where two fire engines were parked.

At the time, Chan said she was rushing for a meeting. She also apologized for a “misjudgment”, went to a police station and gave a statement to officers.
Reporters filmed Chan leaving the court via Sai Wan Ho MTR station after the hearing.
On Sunday, Legislative Council (LegCo) president Starry Lee said told reporters that the legislature’s Oversight Committee was looking into Chan’s case and would issue an official response afterward.
The Supervisory Committee can ABoUT varying degrees of sanctions following investigations, ranging from a written warning to suspension from service and reduction of a legislator’s remuneration.
