of West Bengal The cabinet decided on Monday to end government aid to groups based on religious categorization from June.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting at the Nabanna state secretariat, minister Agnimitra Paul said the state also scrapped the existing OBC state list in accordance with the Calcutta High Court ruling.
“The Bengal cabinet decided to end government aid to groups based on religious categorization from June. The government also scrapped the existing OBC list in line with the Calcutta High Court judgment and will set up a panel to decide the eligibility of quotas,” Paul said, her statement said.
Paul also informed that the schemes implemented under religious categorization by the departments of Information and Cultural Affairs and Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education will continue till the end of this month and will be discontinued from June.
She said that an announcement about this development will be made later.
The state cabinet on Monday further approved the ‘Annapurna’ scheme of Rs 3,000 monthly assistance for women from June 1. Paul said that women who applied for citizenship under the CAA and approached the courts to be included in the voter rolls in the wake of the SIR exercise will also get benefits of the ‘Annapurna’ scheme.
