Eurovision Song Contest viewers had to listen twice after the mishearing Swedenlyrics – but what to do you do you hear
Tonight, as the 70th annual competition took place at the Wiener Stadthalle viennaAustria, the country was represented by Felicia Eriksson with the tune My System.
The 24-year-old took to the stage in the 20th slot, accompanied by dancers and lasers for the lively electronic number.
However, it was the lyrics that really caught people’s attention, as many were convinced they were too explicit.
In the chorus, Felicia sings, “No, I can’t get you out of my system,” but since she’s singing while wearing a face mask, you’d be forgiven for hearing something much more NSFW.
‘God I thought she sang “Can’t Get You Out of My Sister”!’, a stunned @gaboss wrote on X.

“When Sweden came on I heard it for the first time as ‘I can take you away from my sister’ and I was like… that’s kind of inappropriate – I had to look up the lyrics – but it’s all I can hear anyway,” said @Freja9.
“Sounds like sister not system,” @coxyhockeychick also laughed, with @catmuurka echoing: “I thought she was singing my sister but it was my system.”
Oh, but Sweden wasn’t the only country having a great moment tonight.
Enter Romania, whose entry, Alexandra Căpitănescu, performed a tune titled… Suffocate Me.
His lyrics include, “Born for you to control / I want you to suffocate me” and “Inside, I’m on fire / I want you to calm me, calm me, calm me / Calm, my body is begging.”
She also sings the lines, “You’re here to convince me” and “Love me, make my lungs explode.”
Naturally, these raised eyebrows as millions tuned in tonight, especially as the staging included string lights.
Calling it a “very controversial song”, @UkandNireland said flatly: “It’s a No from me.”
‘Wait what? Choking me??’, asked a stunned @itsjust_mj04, with @ThisLeadenPall simply asking: ‘WTF?’
@dizzy_thinks also joked about the act ‘raising the BDSM stakes’ and @lagomsensei said: ‘Don’t do this at home kids.’
Others felt even more strongly, with @sharon_wisner furious: ‘tbh I’m really not behind the Romanian song choke me. Seriously. This is a bad message, how did it pass the vetting? Not good!’
Despite the dangerous messaging, however, many were on board, calling it a “banger” and @MAHLeeGO even hailed it their “winner.”
But just in case you thought the wild lyricism would stop there, Eurovision 2026 has another surprise up its sleeve, welcoming Miriana Conte from Maltawho ruffled feathers last year by… serving KANT.
In 2025, the Maltese star was ordered to censor her tune, given how her ‘maid singing’ chorus sounded too much like English swear words.
In Maltese, ‘kant’ means ‘sung’, but in English, the pronunciation is similar to the C-word.
At the time, Miriana said she was ‘shocked and disappointed’ by organizers’ decision that she could not enter the floor, but insisted the ‘diva was NOT down’.
“I promise you this: the show will go on,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, with her subsequent performance going viral for its glam scene and exercise ball choreography, which was also revived this weekend.
She became a fan favourite, meaning her comeback got a raucous reception tonight, as fans at X said they were screaming at their screens.
@eurovisionpollz said “Miriana Conte is a true queen”, while @joecrook96 called her a “legend in the building”.
‘KANT IS BACK’, @oddinarything celebrated, although some had a valid point to raise.
“How is ‘suffocating me’ not worse than ‘serving Kant’?!?” asked @EmmaGorowska.
Honestly, you never know what Eurovision will serve up next.
