It will be difficult to find many inhabitants Coronation Street who had something very nice to say Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in the wake of his death.
The man was a cruel, sadistic abuser who systematically sought to destroy Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), using every possible form of abuse to break and torture him, and, once his true colors were exposed to the population of Weatherfield, made no attempt to hide the beast within that he had gone to great lengths to hide.
While most would happily forget Theo ever existed, that’s an impossibility now, since Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) and The Green Kit (Jacob Roberts) are currently in hot pursuit of the resident who personally saw his death through an Almighty blow to the head.
In the official list of suspects are his long-suffering ex-wife, Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson)father figure and Todd’s closest confidant, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), his girlfriend Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), Theo’s former best friend and certified bully, Gary Windass (Mikey North), adopted daughter of Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) which Theo killed, The wizard of wine (Harriet Bibby), and Todd himself.
As Corrie brass begin to pick apart the web of secrets, lies and mystery surrounding the dark act, James Cartwright himself weighed in on the mystery last weekend at the 2026 BAFTA Television Awards.
James Cartwright keeps fans guessing
James teased Radio Times: ‘If I told you, I’d have to kill you. Is that a price you’re willing to pay?’
“It’s been a really exciting time to be a part of the show and to hear – it’s not what you think it is.
‘So it could be summer. Not likely, but she could have hit him with a can of beans and dragged him out the back of the store. It could be George – you know, he’s a big boy and he’s already hit it. It could be Pauline (McGlynn)…there are so many people it could be!’
James further gushed about his involvement in the The story of the week of the murder: ‘My God, it was so exciting and I feel so honored and blessed to have been on the show at that time, and I think it’s really, really thriving.’
“And I think you had two! You had a double hit.
“You had who was going to die and then who did the killing. So you had two bites at the same cherry.’

Next week George and Christina discover Summer’s diary. Viewers have previously seen her reread a page, covered in scribbles about Theo’s true monstrous nature, but they discover a new page, complete with Summer depicted holding a gun to her head.
As they flip through the diary, discovering page after page of her rage and deep hatred, they begin to believe that Summer may have put a permanent end to Theo.
“With the discovery of this private journal that Summer writes her thoughts in, I think she’s panicking because she knows it looks really bad.
“Whether she is guilty or innocent, this diary is not a good thing for anyone else to see because it implicates her.
“So I think she’s grasping at straws on how to get over this, to avoid the fact that they found this journal that contains her darkest thoughts.”
Kit later makes a big discovery and Summer is dragged in for questioning by Lisa.
Speaking about her alter-ego mentality, Harriet said: ‘I think she’s panicked, there’s never been a situation like this for Summer to be around.
“She’s also thinking about Billy, what would he think of me now, that’s at the back of her mind and it makes her even more scared.
“Whether you’re innocent or guilty, sitting in a police station being questioned about someone’s murder is terrifying.
“So she’s just in a state of panic and she knows there’s stuff like this against her, it doesn’t look good and that’s how she can avoid these pieces of what looks like evidence against her.”
